Historic SS United States faces eviction from Philadelphia berth

Reported 8 months ago

A federal judge has ordered the historic SS United States, known for holding the transatlantic speed record, to vacate its berth in Philadelphia due to a rent dispute. The judge ruled that the conservancy overseeing the ship must find a new home and raise funds for insurance, tugs, surveys, and dock preparations for relocation. Built in 1952, the SS United States broke speed records and served as a military vessel, but has faced decades of decay and failed redevelopment attempts by private owners. The ship must now find a new purpose or possibly face commercial redevelopment.
