Holiday Weekend Chaos: 4-Car Pileup in Zhongliao Tunnel on National Highway 3 Causes 2-Kilometer Traffic Jam

Over the Dragon Boat Festival holiday weekend, a series of accidents occurred on National Highway 3 southbound at 379 kilometers inside the Zhongliao Tunnel. At 3:28 pm, at least 4 cars were involved in a chain collision, leaving only the center lane passable and resulting in a 2-kilometer traffic jam. The exact cause and responsibility for the accident are still under investigation by the highway police. Related incidents include a car pileup at the Chulun Interchange southbound exit involving 4 vehicles, with a fifth grader experiencing a nosebleed and a female driver feeling dizzy, both sent for medical treatment, as well as two foreign workers fleeing the scene and inadvertently entering a detention center, and a severe bullying incident in Yilan where an older female student was physically assaulted at school.
