Hong Kong: 8 More Sentenced in 'Anti-Extradition' Protests

On June 22nd, 2024, 8 more men in Hong Kong were sentenced to 37 to 50 months in prison by a court for rioting during the 2019 'anti-extradition' protests. These individuals were involved in a case where people tried to rescue protesters who were surrounded by the police outside Polytechnic University during the protests. So far, a total of 200 individuals have been convicted in connection with this case. The protests erupted in 2019, with clashes at Polytechnic University resulting in numerous arrests and charges of rioting against those involved. Over 160 individuals have been sentenced to imprisonment, with 22 more awaiting sentencing.
