Reported 12 months ago

On the 27th anniversary of the Hong Kong handover, Chief Executive Carrie Lam published an article mentioning that China and Hong Kong’s 'one country, two systems' had been tested over the past 27 years. She highlighted the strengthening of Hong Kong under the mainland's support. Lam noted the integration of the National Security Law provisions with the Basic Law, ensuring a solid legal foundation for national security. The traditional large-scale July 1st rallies organized by democratic groups have disappeared due to COVID-19 restrictions and the implementation of the National Security Law. Enhanced security measures were reported for July 1st, with around 4,000 officers deployed by the Hong Kong police. Additionally, the cancellation of the 'Pride Month' event and the decline in press freedoms were mentioned by Reporters Without Borders, indicating a significant impact of the National Security Law.
