The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government issued a statement late at night in response to the Mainland Affairs Council's decision to raise the travel warning to Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau to 'orange,' calling it a 'defamation and smear.' The government stated that labeling Hong Kong as riskier to visit due to the implementation of the national security law was misleading. The government emphasized that safeguarding national security is a sovereign right and criticized Taiwan for ignoring this while maligning the security laws. The warning levels were detailed, with 'orange' advising to avoid non-essential travel, and the government reiterated that ordinary travelers, including those from Taiwan, would not engage in activities endangering national security. The government urged Taiwan to stop defaming the security law, noting that such political tactics will fail.
