Marissa Blount, a Broughton High School junior, overcame a traumatic childhood in foster care and was inspired to help other children facing similar situations. Her persistence and ability to inspire adults led to the creation of Wake County’s pre-LINKS program, providing activities and skills development for pre-teens in foster care. The program offers a safe space for foster children to have fun, make friends, and learn through various programs and activities, emphasizing the importance of empathy and understanding in recognizing the difficulties children in foster care may face.
