Minister of Transportation Li Meng-yan revealed that Hualien's tourism subsidy policy will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Despite the accommodation subsidies introduced this month to boost Hualien tourism, only 15% of rooms were occupied over the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. Factors such as fewer holiday days, heavy rains in various areas, and the recent controversial activity of Hualien's legislative Yuan lawmaker Fu Kun-chi have contributed to the lackluster tourism response. The subsidies aim to invigorate tourism in eastern Taiwan, but the response during the holiday fell below expectations, attributed in part to the public's stance on the lawmaker. The Ministry will assess the accommodation situation and make adjustments accordingly, with further enhancements under consideration. Hualien's recent difficulties are also affecting accommodation rates in Yilan, where additional discount measures are being planned to implement by June 15th.
