Huang Kuo-chang Opposes Revision of 'Offshore Islands Development Act' by KMT, Deeming it Inappropriate to Open Backdoor

Reported about 1 year ago

On July 4, 2024, People First Party Legislator Huang Kuo-chang and others held a press conference titled 'Don't Let the DPP Hijack Taiwan's Democracy.' Recently, Kuomintang legislators proposed amending the 'Offshore Islands Development Act' to allow major public projects on offshore islands to introduce Chinese investment, sparking concerns and criticisms. After a party caucus meeting on July 5, Huang Kuo-chang expressed opposition to the proposal, stating that it was inappropriate to open such a backdoor. Regarding the KMT's proposal to allow Chinese companies to participate in major government investment projects on the offshore islands, Huang emphasized that this matter was significant and the People First Party caucus would not support it. Additionally, the Internal Affairs Committee Chairperson, Kao Chin Su-mei, decided to continue reviewing the amendment to the 'Recall and Election Act' on Monday, but a proposal to raise the recall threshold by KMT Legislator Hsu Yu-chen was removed. When asked if the People First Party would support other KMT proposals, Huang Kuo-chang mentioned they respect the KMT's stance adjustment on the amendment and are prepared to propose revisions next week as planned.
