President Tsai Ing-wen has emphasized multiple times that the State of the Union address must be legal and constitutional. The Legislative Yuan recently passed amendments to the 'Exercise of Powers by the Legislative Yuan Act,' including contempt of parliament offenses and real-time questioning during the President's State of the Union address, which are now officially in effect. However, various parties have requested a constitutional interpretation, leading to a potential six-month period of uncertainty. Despite this, Taiwan People's Party legislative caucus leader Huang Kuo-chang formally proposed processing the President's State of the Union address in the upcoming parliamentary meeting on July 12, prompting a freeze on further discussions. The Presidential Office spokesperson, Kuo Ya-hui, stressed the importance of respecting the solemnity of the constitution and recommended waiting for the Constitutional Court's ruling before taking action.
