Malaysian songwriter Huang Mingzhi's popular song 'Floating North' has garnered an incredible 190 million views on YouTube, prompting a collaboration with 78-year-old Hakka singing legend Zhang Shaolin for a Hakka version. Zhang, recognized as the 'Hakka Supreme' and 'Hakka Song Deity,' personally penned the lyrics for the song, infusing it with strong Hakka cultural elements. The difficulty of singing in Hakka left Huang Mingzhi feeling nervous during recording. Additionally, the Hakka version features vocals from Lydia Chua, known as the 'Malaysian Vocal Angel,' further enhancing the song's allure. This collaboration sets the stage for Zhang Shaolin's upcoming farewell concert and allows fans to experience his musical charm early on, as he plans to bid farewell to the stage while remaining open to future collaborations with fellow artists.
