On June 16, 2024, Premier Zou Rongtai visited Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City and announced Taiwan's first artificial intelligence industrial zone would be established around the Tainan high-speed rail special zone to promote the industrialization and AI application across all industries, realizing President Lai Ching-te's vision of an AI island. Tainan Mayor Huang Weizhe expressed gratitude for the central government promoting AI industry development in Tainan's Shalun area and expanding it to other counties and cities, highlighting the favorable conditions for AI ecological development with research institutions and technology clusters available. Huang also mentioned the active support from the city government to assist the central government's plans in hopes of early AI ecosystem landing in Tainan.
