Huawei Exec Refutes Notion of Advanced Chip Shortage Hindering China's AI Ambitions

At the World AI Conference in Shanghai, Huawei Cloud CEO Zhang Ping'an dismissed concerns that a scarcity of cutting-edge AI chips would impede China's goal to lead in AI. Despite US restrictions on chip exports to China, Zhang emphasized the need for innovation in dealing with the issue. Huawei, restricted from purchasing US-made chips, has introduced its Ascend AI chip. Zhang advocated for creative solutions leveraging cloud technology to overcome limitations caused by the lack of advanced AI chips and emphasized the importance of a unified approach integrating cloud, edge, and networks for energy efficiency and enhanced performance.
