On July 2, 2024, during the Academia Sinica Academician Conference, Professor Kong Xiangzhong, Bill Gates Lecturer in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at Harvard University, delivered a keynote speech titled 'Embracing Generative AI.' Despite the global AI wave leading to a phenomenon of 'STEM popular, humanities cold' in Taiwan, Kong holds the opposite view, emphasizing the importance of talents in the humanities field in the AI era, stating that they can make AI safer. He warned about the risks of AI lacking democratic and free values, potentially leading society and culture in dangerous directions unnoticed. Kong highlighted the need for Taiwan to develop and maintain GenAl (Generative AI) models aligned with Taiwan's democratic values to influence the Chinese community and even globally, emphasizing the essential role of humanities talents in ensuring the safety and wisdom of AI.
