Hurricane Elsa Sweeps through the Caribbean Sea, Heads Straight for Mexico

On July 2, 2024, Hurricane Elsa, equivalent to a strong Category 4 typhoon, made landfall in Grenada and swept through the southeastern Caribbean Sea, marking the first recorded Category 4 hurricane to appear in June and causing severe damage in the region. The storm has already caused at least one death in the Windward Islands, including Saint Vincent, Saint Lucia, and Grenada. Prime Minister of Grenada, Mitchell, described it as a long morning for the residents affected by the hurricane, with hundreds of houses and buildings damaged and widespread power outages reported. The hurricane is projected to continue northwestward and is expected to make landfall in Mexico over the weekend.
