Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution inaugurated Indonesia's first battery cell production plant for electric vehicles in Indonesia with an annual capacity of 10 Gigawatt hours. The plant is part of their commitment to invest up to $9.8 billion in Southeast Asia's largest economy to develop an EV supply chain, leveraging the country's rich resources of nickel and copper. The plant will produce batteries for Hyundai's Kona Electric SUV and they plan to invest $2 billion in expanding the plant's capacity.
