As of 2022, IKEA globally witnessed 60,000 resignations due to the irregular schedules, low wages, and high customer-facing stress common in the retail industry, exacerbated by the pandemic. Each resignation costs IKEA $5,000 to cover personnel costs, totaling 16.1 million NTD, prompting urgent measures by the management involving pay raises, flexible working hours, and streamlined workflows. Efforts have shown progress with decreased resignation rates in some locations, but challenges remain in countries like France due to labor disputes. Despite these hurdles, IKEA stands out as one of the few retail companies effectively addressing employee turnover amidst rising resignation rates industry-wide.
