On June 28, 2024, at 2:15 AM, a large amount of abandoned waste, including wooden table tops, expired face masks, health supplements, and a signboard with a clinic's name, was found hidden in the bushes on a slope in Yangmingshan National Park. Two men involved in a waste removal project were suspected of illegally dumping the waste in the national park for a profit of NT$456,000. Investigations revealed their illegal gains to be around NT$450,000, leading to charges under the Waste Disposal Act. The case emphasizes the importance of protecting Taiwan's ecologically important Yangmingshan National Park, with penalties for violating waste disposal laws reaching up to 5 years of imprisonment and a fine of NT$15 million. The park officials and law enforcement agencies are working together to combat illegal waste dumping and environmental pollution in the region.
