In Pingtung, a man named Chen was caught illegally hunting eagles and possessing valuable feathers for making traditional headwear, with the judge ruling probation due to the feathers being intended for traditional use rather than for sale. The species, also known as the Crested Serpent Eagle, is a critically endangered national treasure, with less than 500 pairs left in Taiwan, making their feathers highly sought after in the market with prices ranging from 10,000 to 60,000 yuan, posing a threat to their population.
