Improper Parking Design Leads to Legal Violation and Damaged Pavement in Taiwan

Reported 8 months ago

In an attempt to alleviate parking issues at the intersection of Wenchang Road and Mahengheng Boulevard in Taitung City, local authorities extended the pavement onto private land leased by two convenience store operators. The design, where the sidewalk is on the outside and the parking spaces inside, has vehicles crossing the sidewalk illegally, damaging the pavement and violating traffic regulations with fines up to NT$1,800. In response, the county government has initiated a project to improve the area's pedestrian spaces and is working to repair and strengthen the damaged pavement while urging landowners to take responsibility for maintenance within their property boundaries.
