Improving Women's Labor Participation with Paid Care Leave

Reported about 1 year ago

Taiwan's new Minister of Labor, Ho Pei-shan, announced plans to introduce a 'paid care leave' system to support working individuals in looking after elderly family members or children, especially aimed at improving the low female labor participation rate, particularly among those aged 50 and above, compared to the US, Japan, and South Korea. The initiative is designed to allow workers to balance work and caregiving responsibilities, addressing the early exit of Taiwanese women from the labor market. Ho emphasized the importance of adapting policies to the changing work landscape and the prevalence of dual-income households in driving the workforce to stay competitive, particularly regarding women and middle-aged individuals.
