Inadequate Regulation by CCP Leads to Chaos in University Selection Services

Reported 8 months ago

Following the conclusion of university entrance exams in mainland China, businesses have started selling 'volunteer consultation' services, pricing ranging from hundreds to tens of thousands of Chinese yuan. Some even pose as live streaming influencers, selling expensive consultation services with opaque pricing, raising concerns of fraud. Despite such chaos recurrently happening, there is a lack of stronger regulation and oversight from relevant CCP departments. With 13.42 million people participating in this year's university entrance exams, an increase of 510,000 from the previous year, results are being gradually released starting from the 23rd, with candidates beginning to make their selections. Each year after the exams, candidates and parents in mainland China pay for volunteer report services that contain consultation services. One education group recently launched a volunteer selection service priced at nearly 20,000 Chinese yuan, which sold out within 3 hours. Some parents who obtained the most expensive product believe their children are halfway into university already, with many considering this education group as a benchmark. There are more than 1,400 volunteer consultation companies in mainland China, offering expensive services that do not guarantee admission but capitalize on the anxiety of candidates and parents. Some individuals combine social media and become live stream influencers, taking the business of 'volunteer selection planners' to a larger stage, portraying themselves as 'guides' and being highly popular among candidates and parents; however, their fees are high, pricing is opaque, and there are suspicions of fraud.
