Reported about 1 year ago
A Taiwanese fishing boat 'Da Jin Man 88' operating outside of Kinmen Island was forcibly inspected and detained by Chinese coast guard ships and taken to Fujian's Weitou Port. National Security Bureau Director-General Chai Ming-yen stated that the frequency of operations in the grey zone by the Chinese Communist Party has indeed increased. Taiwan will continue to enhance relevant patrols in its territorial waters to safeguard legal maritime activities. The government will defend fishermen's legal fishing rights at sea and provide protection actions, urging fishermen to be alert in sensitive waters and respect national laws. Coordination with relevant countries will be done through diplomatic channels. The grey zone activities by the Chinese coast guard have been noted in waters beyond Taiwan, including the East and South China Seas. Republican legislator Ma Wen-jiun inquired about the recent detention of fishermen, to which Mainland Affairs Council Vice Chairman Liang Wen-jie responded that it depends on the intensity of Chinese law enforcement at sea and reminded fishermen to be cautious, especially during China's fishing moratorium in May each year. As for the return of the detained fishermen, Liang mentioned there is no clear information at the moment.
