India's liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports are expected to slow down as the monsoon season reduces electricity demand and increases hydropower output, displacing expensive gas-fired generators. The recent surge in LNG imports was driven by affordable spot prices and the need to operate gas-fired plants, but with the temporary emergency order ending in June, imports are likely to decline for the rest of the year. The increase in hydropower production and lower electricity demand during the monsoon season are contributing factors to the decrease in LNG imports for India.
