Indian Official Visits Foxconn Factory in India After Reports of Refusing to Hire Married Women

Reported 12 months ago

Indian labor officials have visited a Foxconn (Hon Hai) factory in southern India this week to inquire about the recruitment practices after reports revealed that the factory refused to hire married women and only hired unmarried young females. The officials interviewed the directors and HR personnel of the factory near Chennai. Foxconn did not immediately respond to the queries. The factory, which produces Apple products, employs 41,281 people, with only 8% being married women. The investigation is ongoing as India's Prime Minister Modi demanded a thorough inquiry into the matter.
