A 14-year-old boy in Kerala, India, tragically died after swimming in a pond to cool off and getting infected with Naegleria Fowleri, also known as brain-eating amoeba. This marks the third fatal case in India within two months. The amoeba enters through the nose to the brain, causing primary amoebic meningoencephalitis, with a high mortality rate of 97%. The warming climate may lead to more contaminated water bodies, increasing the risk of such infections.
