According to the South Korean news agency 'Yonhap' reported by the 'Han Kook Press,' Indonesia officially approved on June 6 to receive a decommissioned patrol vessel from South Korea to boost its naval defense capabilities in safeguarding the surrounding waters and accelerating defense modernization. The Indonesian Parliament passed the proposal to acquire the South Korean Navy's 2021 decommissioned Pohang-class patrol vessel 'PCC-773,' despite concerns about the maintenance costs. This decision indicates both countries' commitment to maintaining defense cooperation, especially after Indonesia's initial decision to cut funding for the joint KF-21 fighter jet project with South Korea caused tensions. Indonesia's Deputy Defense Minister Herindra mentioned that the vessel will undergo refurbishment at a South Korean shipyard before sailing back to Indonesia for local shipyards to upgrade its weapon and radar systems, with an anticipated service life of 10 to 15 years.
