On June 10, 2024, in response to an initiated online petition for the recall of Mayor High Hung-An, the Hsinchu City Government stated its respect. Following Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang entering the second phase of a recall petition, Hsinchu Mayor High Hung-An was named, and recently, the 'Recall High Hung-An: Wind City, Peace of Mind on the Road' petition was officially launched online. The city government expressed respect for political comments by netizens and pointed out that recent media polls show nearly 60% support for High Hung-An's governance, indicating the city government team still needs to garner support from another 40% of citizens. Social platform Threads recently had a netizen create an account 'Recall High Hung-An: Wind City, Peace of Mind on the Road' to promote the recall case of Hsinchu Mayor High Hung-An, with the first stage of the proposed petition already launched. The initiators of the recall pointed out that the corruption assistant fee case involving High Hung-An will be judged in the first trial on July 24. Even if found guilty in the first trial, High Hung-An will immediately suspend from duty, to be represented by Deputy Mayor Qiu Chenyuan, who is also a member of the People's Party, in continuing to execute High Hung-An's will; if found not guilty in the second or third trial, High will resume immediately. Consequently, they emphasized that as long as High Hung-An still bears the title of mayor, a recall can be initiated, urging citizens to join the change. Regarding the online initiated recall petition, the Hsinchu City Government responded by stating that they respect political comments by netizens, and every citizen can express opinions and thoughts according to personal wishes. They cited recent media polls indicating nearly 60% of citizens support High Hung-An's governance, signifying the city government's need to strive for the additional 40% of citizens' support. The Hsinchu City Government stated that regardless of supporting or opposing voices, they are important references for the city government team's governance and will aim to enhance citizens' well-being, promote policies that are impactful for citizens, and respond earnestly to citizens' expectations.
