Intel's First Chiplet Design with Integrated Optical I/O for High-Speed Data Processing Demonstrated at Optical Fiber Communication Conference in 2024

Reported about 1 year ago

Intel showcased its first chiplet design with fully integrated optical compute interconnect (OCI) at the 2024 Optical Fiber Communication Conference, enabling high-speed real-time data processing when co-packaged with CPUs to enhance data center and high-performance computing efficiency. The OCI chiplets can increase bandwidth, reduce power consumption, extend transmission distances, accelerate machine learning workloads, and revolutionize high-performance AI infrastructure development, supporting up to 64 channels and 32Gbps data transfer over 100 meters of optical fiber.
