On June 28, 2024, in Kaohsiung City, Zigan District, the chairman of Tong An Temple, Zeng Zhiyuan, was arrested on suspicion of selling drugs. The Prosecutor General of Qiaotou District, Li Tinghui, commanded the police to search five locations in Zigan District, summoning Zeng Zhiyuan, a man surnamed Li, and 9 other defendants to appear in court. Nearly 9 kilograms of unidentified powder, methamphetamine, heroin, and coffee packets were seized. Zeng Zhiyuan, after questioning by the prosecutor, admitted to selling first and second-class drugs, leading to his detention. Li, on the other hand, was released on bail of 30,000 yuan, with the other defendants let go. Zeng Zhiyuan, the chairman of Tong An Temple, who became an Internet celebrity after taking office last year, was involved in a drug case 20 years ago. He was known as 'Chairman' or 'GN' by his fans. He even participated in a TikTok movie called 'Yi Zhen' in April this year, said to be a first in Taiwan. Following his arrest for drug offenses, Tong An Temple issued a statement clarifying Zeng Zhiyuan's personal behavior and temple-related matters are separate, and all duties are now shouldered by the vice chairman.
