RICOH IMAGE introduced the first product of the PENTAX film camera project, named PENTAX 17, which combines a half-frame imaging system with modern electronic technology to allow young users to easily shoot film images. The PENTAX 17 is based on a film camera model from 20 years ago, using computer-aided design (CAD) based on hand-drawn documents and manuals from the early production stage, 3D printing for prototype parts, as well as input from engineers who worked on camera production in the past. The camera aims to provide a traditional mechanical feel while lowering the barrier to use with new electronic technology. Pre-orders for the PENTAX 17 are set to open in mid-July at selected retailers, with the actual price yet to be confirmed.
