On June 14, 2024, at 6:51 am, Legislator Li Zongze continued monitoring the process of a mainland Chinese man trespassing the Tamsui River. According to surveillance footage obtained by TVBS and information revealed by local operators, the man, surnamed Ruan, lost power and collided with a Taiwanese fishing boat. The operator noticed his non-local accent, prompting them to call the police. The Coast Guard claimed they saw the incident but didn't report it, and only arrived on scene after the operator's report to arrest the mainland man. Witnesses and legislator highlighted a lack of communication between police and Coast Guard, with the delay potentially allowing the trespasser to escape ashore.
