Investigating Zheng Wen-Can: The Dark Past of Mayor Zheng Wen-Can Revealed by Councilor Chan Jiang-Cun

Reported about 1 year ago

Former chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation Zheng Wen-Can is accused of accepting bribes during his tenure as the mayor of Taoyuan. After an initial bail of 5 million NT dollars, a subsequent bail hearing was held on the 9th. Councilor Chan Jiang-Cun exposed Zheng Wen-Can's annual fundraising activities targeting corporations during various events, even receiving a 1 million NT dollar donation from internet celebrity 'Guanchang.' Chan likened Zheng's actions to those of the 'County Chief' from the movie 'Let the Bullets Fly,' with complaints from Taoyuan corporations regarding the large fundraising amounts. Furthermore, the funds received were classified as confidential by Zheng, hindering councilors from accessing information about the total amount and its allocation. Chan criticized the Political Ethics Office for not allowing councilors the right to review detailed donation lists and expenditures. It was also revealed that the then head of the Taoyuan Political Ethics Office, who approved Zheng's bail, is the father of the female judge with the surname Deng. Chan emphasized that everyone is responsible for Zheng's audacity, as vigorous inquiries in council meetings were not given public attention at the time, enabling Zheng's misconduct to flourish unchecked.
