On June 21, 2024, the New Taipei police uncovered a fraud ring that used the guise of investment celebrity 'Emily' to deceive victims, resulting in over NT$5 million in illegal gains. The police, posing as victims, successfully apprehended 9 individuals involved in the scam. The victims were lured in by the promise of profits but were asked for more money as 'guarantee deposits' before realizing they were being scammed, with losses ranging from NT$500,000 to NT$2 million each. The fraudsters, mainly young car drivers, used various tactics to trick victims into believing in their scheme, highlighting the prevalence of investment scams in Taiwan.
