Iran's new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, has reappointed Mohammad Eslami, a U.S.-educated official previously sanctioned by the United Nations for his role in nuclear proliferation, as head of the country's nuclear department. Eslami will continue to oversee Iran's civilian nuclear program amidst ongoing Western sanctions and efforts to revive the nuclear deal that has been critically strained.
