Iranian President Election: Reformist Pezeshkian Wins

Reported about 1 year ago

In the second round of voting for Iran's presidential election, reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian emerged victorious over the ultra-conservative Saeed Jalili, according to the Ministry of Interior. Pezeshkian secured over 16 million votes out of around 30 million, while Jalili received over 13 million, with a voter turnout of 49.8%. Following the death of President Raisi in a helicopter crash in May, the election was held earlier than scheduled. The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had urged increased voter turnout for the run-off election, emphasizing the importance of the election process.
