Iranian Presidential Elections: Reformist and Hardliner Candidates Advance to 'Final Round'

Reported 12 months ago

The Iranian Ministry of Interior has announced that the counting of votes for the presidential election is completed, with no candidate receiving over 50% of the vote. Consequently, the top two candidates with the highest vote percentages will advance to the second round. Reformist candidate Pizeshkian garnered over 10.4 million votes while conservative candidate Jalili received over 9.4 million votes. This election, held amidst regional tensions and domestic discontent, follows a series of events including the death of Foreign Minister Zarif in a helicopter crash. The upcoming president will be responsible for executing national policies set by the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
