On July 5, 2024, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu ordered the head of the intelligence agency Mossad to lead a delegation to Qatar to restart negotiations with mediators from various countries on a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, in hopes of further advancing peace in the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu's decision to send a delegation to Qatar followed discussions in April about Hamas' response, as well as a phone call with U.S. President Biden to discuss hostage situations and ceasefire negotiations. While progress has been made with Hamas agreeing to significant adjustments, reaching an agreement is expected to take more time and continued mediation efforts. Meanwhile, Israel continues to launch attacks on the Gaza Strip.
