Long exempt from military service, Ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel have now been stripped of this privilege by the Israeli Supreme Court ruling. As more Israeli youth are being called to fight, the court has mandated the government to start conscripting Ultra-Orthodox Jews, who were previously exempt, into the military. This decision, affecting around 1.3 million Ultra-Orthodox Jews, is expected to cause social unrest and impact Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition government.
