Issues with Food Safety Again? 6 Brands Found to Exceed Heavy Metal Limits in Infants' Rice Products, According to Consumer Foundation's Inspection

Reported about 1 year ago

Popular media outlet Zao Ka reported on July 5, 2024, at 7:13 AM on another food safety concern in infants' food products. The Consumer Foundation recently tested 40 domestic and imported infant rice products for heavy metal content and found several products did not meet standards. Although the heavy metal levels were only slightly above limits, prolonged consumption by infants could potentially impact brain development. Previous inspections in 2020 also revealed exceedances in cadmium levels in infant rice products, leading to a follow-up inspection in February. This year's inspection included various rice products, with 6 brands found exceeding limits for heavy metals such as lead and cadmium, which pose severe health risks for infants. The foundation also checked for arsenic and mercury levels in the samples, highlighting the importance of scrutinizing food labels to protect infants' health.
