Living in cities with LGBTQ+ protections is more expensive: Redfin

Reported 4 months ago

A Redfin report reveals that living in cities with LGBTQ+ protections leads to higher housing costs, requiring a median income of $150,364 compared to $102,435 in areas without such protections. Non-discrimination laws safeguard LGBTQ+ individuals from housing bias, but they still face barriers to homeownership, with limited affordable listings in metros with large LGBTQ+ populations like San Francisco and Portland. Conversely, cities with lower LGBTQ+ populations, such as Pittsburgh, offer more affordable housing options. LGBTQ+ individuals also struggle more with housing payments, with 56.5% facing difficulties compared to 49.9% of the general population, often resorting to borrowing money or delaying parenthood.
