Italian customs announced seizing over 6 tons of chemical substances from mainland China for producing drugs like ecstasy, with an estimated total value exceeding 630 million euros (about 22 billion NT). The substances confiscated are enough to produce over 63 million MDMA pills, flooding the European market. Two Chinese citizens have been arrested in the Netherlands, and an Italian businessman in Milan is under investigation for supervising the import business of these legitimate chemical materials used for illegal products. This seizure is part of a two-year investigation by Eurojust, with origins dating back to 2022 when financial police intercepted a shipment at Milan Malpensa Airport, uncovering substances used to make ecstasy being transported from Milan to the Netherlands.
