Italian Fine for Misleading 'Made in Italy' Label Despite Manufacturing Relocation to China

Reported about 1 year ago

According to Deutsche Welle on June 21, 2024, the Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) fined DR Automobiles for misleadingly labeling cars under the DR and EVO brands as made in Italy rather than China, when in fact they are manufactured in China with only some minor decorative parts from elsewhere. DR Automobiles plans to appeal the fine and insists they never concealed the relocation of production. Italy's right-wing populist government has also initiated a campaign against foreign-made cars being marketed as 'Made in Italy,' with recent cases involving companies like Stellantis changing car model names due to actual production outside of Italy. The authorities stress that foreign-made cars cannot be marketed using Italian names.
