Italian company Leonardo and German company Rheinmetall signed an MOU on July 3 to establish a joint venture in Italy to develop and produce a new main battle tank (MBT) and armored infantry combat system (AICS), enhancing the ground combat capabilities of the Italian Army. The joint venture will focus on three projects: manufacturing 280 units of the KF51 'Black Panther' tank, producing over 1,000 derivative infantry combat vehicles based on the KF41 'Lynx,' and developing new tank technologies for the European Main Ground Combat System (MGCS) project. This collaboration aims to provide reference standards for future armored vehicles and meet defense needs in Europe and beyond.
