Italy has officially submitted its 'Energy and Climate Plan' to the EU, aiming to achieve a target of 131 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and an estimated reliance of around 11% on nuclear energy by 2050, marking the end of Italy's over 30 years of non-nuclear policy. The plan includes the development of nuclear fission power from 2035 onwards and a potential reliance on nuclear fusion power before 2050, emphasizing the country's shift to a more practical approach towards energy and climate issues. Italy also introduces a 'National Platform for Sustainable Nuclear Energy' that could see the country relying on nuclear energy for up to 11% by 2050, with potential to reach 22%.
