Yahoo News reported on June 23, 2024, that there is a shortage of IV fluids due to a production halt at Yung Fong Chemical. Deputy Minister of Health Lin Ching-Yi reassured the public on Facebook that despite not meeting all specifications currently, there are 400,000 bags in stock with an additional 300,000 bags expected to be imported this week. Recently estimated shortages are expected to continue until October, with 1.5 million bags needed monthly from July onwards. Despite some inconvenience in medical procedures due to the shortage, efforts are being made to ensure uninterrupted supply. Production from Yung Fong is being restored gradually, and regulations are being reviewed for quality assurance, balanced supply, and contingency mechanisms to prevent monopolies and shortages within the market. Lin also addressed rumors of another IV fluid factory undergoing maintenance, stating that the government is overseeing production management to avoid disruptions.
