Reported 7 months ago

According to reports from South Korea's Chosun Ilbo on June 13, Japan and North Korea representatives met in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in mid-May to discuss unresolved issues like Japanese abductions. This unofficial meeting was seen as North Korea's attempt to overcome diplomatic and economic obstacles. While Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasumasa Nagamine declined to comment on the nature of the meeting, it was revealed that important political figures from Japan and three individuals from North Korea's Reconnaissance General Bureau (RGB) attended the talks. Despite North Korea's public refusal to engage with Japan, these private discussions indicate Pyongyang's efforts to seek diplomatic and economic breakthroughs. Japan is planning related meetings to address the unresolved issues with North Korea.
