Japan and Philippines to Sign Security Agreement Allowing Military Access to Each Other's Territories

Reported 9 months ago

The Philippines' Department of Foreign Affairs announced that Japan's Foreign Minister and Defense Minister will hold a 2+2 meeting with their Filipino counterparts on July 8 to discuss a Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA), deepening defense cooperation between the two Asian allies. The agreement aims to enhance defense collaboration amid China's increasing assertiveness in the South China Sea and territorial disputes. Japan plans to provide military equipment to boost the Philippines' security, including constructing new naval assets, as part of the bilateral agreement negotiation paving the way since a disaster relief cooperation agreement was signed in 2023.
