Reported 11 months ago

Three more than 1,000 cases of toxic shock syndrome caused by the A-type streptococcus bacteria, commonly known as 'cannibal bacteria,' have been reported in Japan since January, marking the highest record since 1999. With a mortality rate of 30% to 50% and rapid transmission through droplets and contact, the authorities are on high alert. Cases of the illness are increasing at an alarming rate, with severe symptoms including skin blisters, tissue infections, and potential organ failure leading to shock and death within 48 hours. Those with wounds or ulcers, especially the elderly, are advised to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms like rapid swelling or fever occur.
