Japan unveiled its first new banknotes in two decades, including 10,000 yen, 5,000 yen, and 1,000 yen bills with 3-D hologram technology to combat counterfeiting. These bills feature historical figures like Eiichi Shibusawa, Umeko Tsuda, and Shibasaburo Kitasato, celebrating Japanese capitalism, feminism, and scientific innovation. The new designs also include Tokyo Station, wisteria flowers, and Mount Fuji by artist Katsushika Hokusai. The larger prints aim to aid readability for Japan's aging population, with nearly 7.5 billion new banknotes to be printed by March next year, totaling around 1.6 trillion yen in circulation.
