Japan has requested an exemption from President Trump's reciprocal trade tariffs as it aims to mitigate potential negative impacts. During a meeting at the Munich Security Conference, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya expressed to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Japan should be excluded from such tariffs, highlighting concerns over automobile tariffs and the 25% duties on steel and aluminum products. This plea comes as Trump plans to enforce these tariffs as early as April, reflecting ongoing tensions concerning trade imbalances.
